Holland Western Horse Park Extreme Trail

About

The Holland Western Horse Park Extreme Mountain Trail (HWHP EMT) Course broke ground at HWHP in 2016 and has been a huge hit with a large variety of riders!

The course at HWHP houses over 25+ obstacles that are built to the Premier Mount N Trail Association (PMT) standards, which require the obstacles to be constructed in such a manner to protect the safety of both the horse and rider of any size.  As most obstacles contain at least 3 levels of difficulty, there is always a challenge waiting for riders of all experience levels!

In partnership with the PMT, HWHP hopes to use the EMT course to build confident horse and rider partnerships which exemplify great horsemanship skills in even the most difficult situations.

Obstacles are built such that the horse may either be led or rode through each obstacle and there are no limits on breeds, ages, abilities, or disciplines.  Riders are allowed to compete in any type of tack - roping, barrel, jumping, dressage, endurance, etc. - so long as the tack is well fitting and meets the rules set forth by the PMT.

From mules to minis to drafts, the HWHP EMT has something for everyone!

There are several types of events offered at HWHP on the EMT Course and details about each are contained below.

Events

Pay-to-Plays

These events may be considered "open-practice" sessions.  For a set fee and time period, the course is open to participants to explore the course and practice obstacles of their choosing.  The events are meant to be fun and relaxing, but encourage participants to engage with each other and patiently work with their four legged partners, building a partnership and conquering challenges together.

Clinics

Clinics are a great way to learn something new and strengthen the bond between you and your horse.  If you are struggling with an obstacle, fear, or would just like to spend a fun day outside trying something new, our clinics are for you!  Our EMT Clinicians are very experienced in obstacle training and are incredibly patient and kind.  Classes are typically small, limited to approximately 10-15 people to ensure you get adequate one-on-one time with our clinician.

Challenges

Challenges are similar to judged trail rides in that a horse and rider (or leader) pair will traverse a set pattern of 10-15 obstacles where they will be judged in accordance with standards set forth by PMT.  Points are lost or gained depending on how well the pair traverses the obstacle.

Two types of challenges may be offered, which include Schooling Challenges and PMT Challenges.  Schooling Challenges do not allow riders to accumulate points, but rather practice competing in a Challenge and learning from the Judge.  PMT Challenges allow riders to accumulate points towards year end awards and/or to qualify for other PMT Challenges around the US.

We are excited to announce our new partnership with Premier Mount N Trail Association. PMT is backed by the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and is offering a lot of great membership perks to both facilities and individuals riders, including:
-A very generous year-end awards structure
-Then new RIDE program which allows riders to earn awards for horsemanship and volunteer hours logged, whether or not they also compete
-Automatic OQHA membership and OQHA offering of additional awards (all breeds may participate in the OQHA-backed awards)
-And an incredibly excited and passionate team at the reins!

On the right hand side is more details on the year-end awards for riders who choose to become PMT members and earn points at qualified mountain trail challenges.  All five of our challenges at HWSC Extreme Mountain Trail will qualify for earning PMT points.
